Standard / Plain Concrete
Most standard concrete is broom finished or smooth finished. Broom finish is the most common exterior finish. Smooth finish is used for garages and basements.
The expansion/contraction joints can either be saw cut or hand cut. These joints separate concrete slabs into squares or rectangles for controlling cracks.
Atlantis offers a variety of standard concrete packages to meet your budget. Our superior grade standard concrete has above industry standard amounts of cement and is sealed with a 5-7 year salt guard. Our economic concrete, used by the average homeowner and by property managers, only meets industry standards but still has a high quality finish.
Sub-Grade
A quality concrete contractor will never install flatwork directly onto sod or dirt. The excess moisture in the soil can cause the concrete to heave, shift, settle, crack and scale. Atlantis prepares the site by removing all topsoil and uses a minimum of 2-4" of compacted crushed limestone as a sub-grade for all concrete pours.
Thickness
Atlantis pours all standard and decorative concrete at a minimum of 4" thick. This is the standard thickness of most concrete surfaces including; driveways, sidewalks and patios. Concrete poured under 4" thick will have less integrity and is prone to cracking and crumbling.
